There is so much I didn't learn in school (during late 1970's)- in fact I learned most of my WWII and Holocaust history from my parents, not the public school. Such a tragedy it wasn't talked about very much then (the schools do seem to actually teach about it now). I feel drawn to the internet, books, television, and films to learn all I can. Comments: I am visiting Auschwitz next week and wanted to read about the atrocities before I go. I'm sure like me, very many people have heard about the 'holocaust' but the real horror of what took place is beyond human comprehension. One friend advised me not to visit Auschwitz as it has affected his mother very drmatically when she went there. However, other friends, and my own son, who have been say it cannot be missed. The trauma lives with you forever. I would not dream of throwing away the chance to see it. Not through any liking for people being tortured but to awaken my soul to seeing how some people lived and unfortunately died.
