Your email address: 2930 Thu December 20 2007 - 01:49:24 Fullname: Spencer Streeter Where are you from?: Layton, Utah Comments: I am a mere computer professional with very little to do with history or having any knowledge about events in the 1940's, yet I was intrigued when a news story mentioned that a tree (a chesnut tree I believe) mentioned in "The Diary of Anne Frank" was probably going to have to be cut down. So wondering what the diary was about I checked it out at the local library. I was very impressed with the writing of a 12-14 year old which was remarkable in every way. I came to know only a little piece of a beautiful intelligence and personality. I knew the end wasn't going to be a happy one, I so wanted it to work out. I know it wasn't a story but history and I wasn't prepared for the emotion of the last page that completely overwhelmed me. I felt as i read the last page as one who is at the dock of a ship set to sea seeing my loved ones leave me never to be heard from again, only the ship wasn't a ship but the machinations of truly horrible purposes and mindsets that I will never understand or ever want to. I believe in life after death and one day, if I am found worthy of such a trek I would very much like to meet Anne and all the people of the "Secret Annex" for I feel I have missed out on knowing a truly wonderful and bright girl who missed out on too much and suffered more than anyone should. Despite all this, she was happy and I find that a greater testament of her good character. I don't know if Miep is still alive, but I am in her debt for preserving Anne's diary and I thank you for your sacrifice and goodness. I cannot thank you enough and there truly are no words that I can convey to you to describe the treasure of Anne's account to me.
