Keep up the good work guys and galls. It is with regret that Tamworth Branch inform you that s/m Tom Pim crossed the bar on the 4th October last, Tom lived in Badsey near Evesham and was rarely seen at Branch but was kept informed of all our endeavours. Toms wife passed away ealier this year and I dont think he recovered from the shock of her demise. I believe Tom was an orphan who was schooled in nautical ways, vis signalling and seamanship, eventually he became a steward and served on the Russian Convoys, Tom was injured when his ship was torpedoed and spent time in a Russian Hospital . After the war I believe Tom became a Purser. Tamworth Branch will take our Standard to his funeral at Prestbury near Cheltenham next monday. 157 October 15 2011 at 15:34:49 Full Name: Thomas Martin Email: tompaul70@comcast.net Home Town?: Windsor CT.USA Message Text: Was engineer with T&J Brocklebank,Chandris (S.S. The following statement appeared on the website of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, dated 10 October 2011: Statement on Trinity Square Gardens Commenting on the Trinity Square Gardens proposals, Mayor Lutfur Rahman said, "Staging events in the Gardens was an idea put forward by Trinity House who have been working with the Council and the proposed event organisers - so I am surprised by comments made this weekend. The Council do not wish to cause any offence to any of the parties involved. As it no longer has the support of Trinity House and the maritime community I have put a stop this event." Ward Councillor for Whitechapel and Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Shahed Ali, added, "These gardens are an important part of the borough's heritage and I am extremely glad the Mayor has used his executive powers to stop this event taking place." Surely we have to oppose this obnoxious show of wealth in an area dedicated to people who gave all for very little ! If this is true our MNA should get on the media and highlight our objections to it taking place. How insensitive !! !! 160 October 10 2011 at 15:49:35 Full Name: Kevin Langley Email: kevinlangley559@btinternet.com Home Town?: Oxford Message Text: I love your website. One small point - MV Laguna (PSNC)did not have an entirely "uneventful career" as you state. She was torpedoed and damaged off Haiti on 17 August 1942 by U-658. Convoy PG6. The Laguna was towed to Guantanamo, was repaired at Galveston and returned to service in November 1942. The first officer, George Rice, was my uncle. 161 October 09 2011 at 20:45:40 Full Name: Susan Benton Email: slynn47@yahoo.com Home Town?: Iowa City, Iowa USA Message Text: I'm looking for information about Captain D.L.C.
