Sadly my grandfather passed away in 1982 but via the internet I was able to find he was entitled to medals (more now which I am getting my grandmother to obtain) and I know where ever he is he would be proud. What he and other Merchant seaman did for their nations for me are very highly regarded and respected! 1004 April 19 2008 at 21:24:57 Full Name: Patrick Kerrigan Email: boss4140_oaklawn@yahoo.com Home Town?: Chicago, Ill Message Text: I and a cousin are trying to track down information in regards to are Uncle Thomas McNicholas. He served on a merchant that was sunk by a U-boat. This could be the SS Yorktown which was part of convoy RB1. It was sunk on September 26, 1942. So far the records check at the PRO has not turned up anything to verify if he was on this ship. He later served on US merchant ships mainly in the Pacific. He retired from merchant duty. 1005 April 16 2008 at 11:58:47 Full Name: andrew wilson Email: andrew@wilson2008.plus.com Home Town?: cumnock, ayrshire Message Text: AB.GRAVESEND NAUTICAL COLLEGE 1989/1990,THEN ON RFA'S OLWEN,TIDESPRING,&SIR PERCIVAL 90-92.THEN 15 YEAR AB ON OFFSHORE VESSELS,LATTERLY WITH MAERSK. 1006 April 16 2008 at 06:46:55 Full Name: george pervan Email: gnpervan@westnet.com.au Home Town?: innisfail australia Message Text: i sailed on the port burnie for a period on the manz run as a senior mechanic would like to be in touch with anyone who sailed around that timei am in north queensland. email. is gnpervan@westnet.com.au 1007 April 11 2008 at 08:27:46 Full Name: Boyd Guard Email: boyd.guard@paradise.net.nz Home Town?: Motunau Beach Road. We are an engineering charity making bespoke aids to help the disabled. We have around 1500 craftsmen, engineers, DIY people throughout the whole of the UK but in some areas of the country, such as East Kent, we have insufficient engineers to handle all the cases that are referred to us. One of our current engineers is ex-naval and has suggested that The Merchant Navy Association may be a possible source of volunteer engineers for us. Our engineers work mainly alongside Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists to visit clients, assess needs, and design and manufacture a bespoke solution where there is no commercially available aid. The panels will take referrals from any source and provide a solution free of charge to the client. The expenses of the engineer, including travel costs, are paid by Remap.
