He didn't like to talk much about the war but I understand the Atlantic Convoys were 'hard'. I was thrilled to find your website and to know that even after all the years there is still a great deal of affection and respect for those who participated and are still participating in the Merchant Marine. If there are any Dunkirk Veterans around I would be interested. My grandfather sailed on a ship called Asuncion de Larrinaga. I know it was used as a military transport from 1915-1919 and he was serving at this time. I would like to know more about its movements and also would like to try and get his service records including any other ships he was on. Could anyone tell me how I can do this. I have tried quite a lot of websites but so far haven't been able to find one that gives me any relevant information. I would be very grateful for any help with this. 854 September 27 2008 at 18:33:00 Full Name: Leigh Newman Email: newmo44@hotmail.uk Home Town?: Liverpool Message Text: Get in touch if you remember me. 855 September 26 2008 at 14:39:37 Full Name: Allan Benfield Email: allanbenfield747@msn.com Home Town?: Guildford Message Text: Hello! I am researching WWII for a series of documentaries for Channel 4. I would love the opportunity to speak to anybody who remembers the Battle of the Atlantic, in particular if you served in the earlier years of WWII. I'd be really interested to hear from you if you were aboard a convoy that was targetted by German torpedo - for example if you were aboard SS Athenia or the Royal Oak in 1939 or Convoy SC 7 or SC-42 heading from Canada to Britain in 1940 and 1941 respectively. Please feel free to contact me if you remember these events or have an interesting story that you'd like to share. Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you soon.
