Message Text: Hello, I am in the process of researching a novel at the moment. My mother remembers being bitten by a small monkey in Belfast around 1940, she has told me that it was brought home by her neighbour, a merchant seaman, as a pet for his sister. I am trying to work out what type of monkey it was likely to have been, and where it might have came from (plus anything else that might be of use.) Many thanks!

Message Text: Hi there

Trying to find out which ships my grandfather served on during WW2 and hopefully track down his service records.

His name was Rhys Thomas Jones and was from Newcastle (dob 2 June 1895)and was Chief Engineer for the British Tankers. Was married to Phillis and they had three children.

Worked for Anglo-Iranian Oil Company for a while and regularly took tankers from the Middle East to Asia. Took ill with malaria (as far as I know) while on one of these journeys and managed to steer the boat to Bombay where he was taken to Pune but later died.

I have tried the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, to no avail as he wasnt killed in action and I dont even know when he died!

Anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

Thank you

I the are that short of cash why don't they scrap those large aircraft carriers. We would never have enough cash run them and not enough vessels to escort them. Who are we likely to go to war wiyh where we would ned all that power. I also under stand that by the time they are built the aircraft won't be ready. Thanks foe considering the letter I am sure there are a lot of shipmates who feel the same Best Wishes to all Henry Perry

Message Text: I enjoyed an interesting program on BBC2 tonight (11th June) about Thames shipwrecks, in particular the telling of the North Sea collier convoys. While a fitting, valued and deserved tribute was made to the Royal Navy Patrol Service, the fact that these colliers were crewed by Merchant Seamen seemed to escape the commentator, and little or no mention of these brave men was uttered, even when the story was about the collier Wentworth. Whilst being born in the fifties i still wish to acknowledge the heroism and bravery of the crews during wartime. This is an excellnt association of which I am proud to be a member.
