Message Text: I visited the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas last week. Very well worth a trip. The Merchant Navy Convoy Wood is particilarly evocative. One oak tree for every ship sunk in WW2. It's a BIG area as you can well imagine! There is a book held in the Chapel containing the name of every M.N. sailor lost. They are listed under the name of the ship they were serving on.
Choose a dry day.

Message Text: Hi all
I am wondering if anyone out there can shed light on a John Ashton who spent time with the Merchant Navy before becoming a poiceman in 1930.
He was born in 1908 and was also known as Sonny.
I'm wondering if there is anyone who finds this name familiar or can help me find out what John did while he was with the Navy.
I have no other info
