Alas, now if I want to do that I have to pay for it, gone are the days for me when I cruised the world and got paid for it. I have plenty of good memories anyway,

It was supposed to be Home Trade, Rotterdam to Hull. Ten months later paid off in Emden, only then as she broke down in a gale and had to be towed in. Not a happy ship, crew figured B.M. Shanghaied us. Still, visited, Quebec, New Orleans, Galverston, B.A. and ports in Africa and Europe.

Message Text: In the MNA circular 101127 of 27 Nov Fred Good ex PO 836 squadron FAA asked about Empire MacKendrick a merchant aircraft carrier during WW2 and its sisters and if anyone had sailed on her/them. In 1956 I sailed on the La Cumbre of Buries Markes which had been built as the Empire McDermott. In the officers saloon was a painting/picture of the ship in her wartime role. I have a photo of the ship as La Cumbre, I was A/S and only did one three month trip,continent/Newport Mews with coal.

I was on the HMS Barfoss (boom defence vessel) in Port Side Harbour during the Suez crisis in 1956, and she was our depot ship. I went on board a few times for beer and movies, we might well have brushed shoulders, all the best mate,
