Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: Dock o' The Bay, Avenue Road, Southampton. 6 Weeks ahead, I booked dinner for 15 people on 22 October, 7.30 for 8pm. We arrived promptly and sat down at 8pm. After half an hour we had to ask someone to take our order. We inquired after our food several times and finally got our starters at 9.30pm! Apparently they had booked in another large group at 8pm too and the kitchen couldn't cope. The food was fine, eventually, but the management appalling. They should have either booked the second group at a different time, or perhaps asked us to pre-order. I organise a large dinner every month and find LWL really helpful.

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: MINT CASINO southampton.( old stanleys casino,Terminus buildings) Last night (22nd oct) I was at a meal for 40ish people seeing a staff member back off to Australia. I have never been there before and since we had only paid just under £9 for 3 courses, was expecting and 70's style chicken in a basket !!How wrong I was. The lay out of the place allows for a large party to be away from the crowds so we could be as noisy as we wanted , and the service was excellent. My garlic mushrooms were great, my pork with stilton was fantastic, really tender, and such flavour, I just kept compairing it to Dockgate 4's miserable chop for 3 x the price. I gave away my cheesecake as I dont really do puddings, and the 'hostess' bent over backwards to supply me with something else. Friends who turned up late just for drinks due to their son being in a fashion show that evening, where presented with a meal at the insistance of the hostess. Ashamed to say I cant remember the ladies name this morning !! Very welcoming, great value for money, and if you like casinios, a very casual one. My Smirnoff ice's were also the same price as the london pub across the road, so no inflation of prices either. Unusual ! Great place for a casual night or large party !!

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: DOCKGATE 4~ I never completed my day out rambling of 9th october !! after Banana wharfe I was at a meal for 40 , a retirement meal, at dockgate 4. I have eaten there many times, and food is average. I was dissaponited however with paying nearly £30/ head ( 3 courses)for a tough and fatty pork chop that was meant to come with wedges and crackling ( came with mash and cabbage). This pork compaired with the Mint casino last night ( see next entry,) was a disaster. My friend ( a future vegetarian I suspect) had to send her steak back 3 times until it got somewhere near medium to well done. Wont be booking a large party there in the near future.

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: TERRA VINA 16th October. My favorite place in the world, and yet again an exemplary lunch, service, wine recommendation for my friend all faultless! I was taken for a birthday lunch, and cant think of a better place to have gone. We sat on the balcony, apparently to the amusement of the indoor diners who thought we would move in by pudding , but we were in the last of the summer sun, and it was glorious, and no hardship was shown by the staff for us creating an extra place for them to serve. An as usual I left having purchased a bottle of their Planeta dipping olive oil. I seem to be supplying to every friend I have !

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: BANANA WHARFE ocean village, Southampton, and DOCKGATE 4,Southampton. I had a very busy day of eating on the 9th October when I met an old friend at Banana wharfe. I haven't been for ages, but was quickly reminded of what a wide range of menu choices they have. I ate lightly as Dockgate 4 was looming that evening, but both our meals were very good value for money and lovely ambience. great to see it busy at lunch time. The only fault...if you can call it that, was all 4 waitressess felt the need to ask if 'everything was OK.'Must remember to use it again for large party meals out.

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: Fra Noi. Have just read your report about the tasting menu. I sampled this myself on the second night of availability on my own so I qualified as being the whole table. I also had the dearer selection of wines.I can only describe the experience as superb and undoubtedly the best Italian I have ever had. Difficult to pick out the best course but I must agree with the ladies that the black egg pasta with Jerusalem Artichokes and walnut cream was a revelation as was the pasta stuffed with smoked cheese and parma ham with a rocket sauce, and also the potato pasta (gnocci)with duck ragu. The wines were also superb, in fact the whole meal with the impeccable service and advice on food and wines has caused me to return again but unfortunately on a Saturday so no tasting menu. I commend it to all who read this.

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: Went for dinner at Suan Thai in Romsey last week, very pleasant atmosphere, good food and efficent service, the duck in Tamarind was lovely, Chicken and Chilli plus some noodles. Not very expensive and they also have a takeaway service but do try the restaurant. The only problem I have after eaten at a few Thai places is that I also wonder how authentic it is and is this what I would be served in Thailand or has it been adjusted for western palates! Overall a very nice experience and all run by women!!

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: Red Rover,Wellow, Nr Romsey. Had heard the food here was average but very affordable so I booked it for a 14 year old's birthday lunch. Boys this age want food as fuel, not haute cuisine, and this is what we got. Staff were lovely, restaurant is spacious, it's family friendly and they were willing to do menu substitutions. The food, as expected, was not the highlight but it was an ideal venue for this particular celebration: welcoming and cheap! If you want an affordable kids' party this might be your venue but don't book it for a special occasion!

Your Report with name and address of restaurant.: A friend and I have just visited Marco Pierre White's Yew Tree Inn at Hollington Cross, Highclere, just across the border into Berkshire. It is well worth a visit. We had a delicious 2 course lunch for £15.50 a head and would have had a dessert as well for £18.50 if we had room. The service was excellent; the surroundings warm and welcoming in what was an old country pub with exposed beams and old brick fireplaces. There was a choice of 4 starters, mains and desserts, with a selection of side dishes for an extra £3.50 (we had the braised red cabbage between us, which was excellent). The coffee was very tasty and our cups were refilled at no extra charge. Overall it was the best meal we had had for many a month, not over pretentious and finicky but proper food, superbly cooked and presented. My friend said the pastry on the partridge pie was the best she has ever tasted. We shall certainly meet there again and also encourage other friends to visit. There is a website; the postcode is RG20 9SE and the phone number 01635 253360. Give it a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
