A spectacular piece of history. Congrats on your site. I have Fr. Charles Murtagh's' Mass card, my great uncle. Having died aged 58, I would make his year of birth to be c.1879 (probably a transcription problem??). The card also indicates a month of death of July. I have nothing to disprove his being born in Athboy parish but the Murtagh family was from Mullacroy, Delvin, Co. Westmeath. Let me know if you need a scan of the card for your research. Both were longtime and respected teachers at the National School in Mount Bolus. Their son John J. Carolan, also a teacher, was shot and killed by Black and Tans during the 1922 East Derry Troubles. Comments: Hello Mount Boleus. I am decendant from the Gleesons who lived in Coolanarny at the turn of the century and or Cully going back to mid 1800's. My great grandmother was Kathleen or Kate Gleeson and her parents were Hugh Gleeson and Biget Purcel. I had the pleasure of a good old chat with Paddy and Billie Gleeson a couple of years ago on the subject of my geneolgy research and they were very helpful, thanks again guys! I am confused though as there are so many Hugh Gleesons and it is proving difficult to identify which ones belong to which branch of the family. The one I am perplexed with at the moment is the Hugh who was Kathleens brother, anyone reading who can help me with his date of birth or date of death and or burial place, would be much appreciated. Also anyone who knows where Briget Gleeson nee Purcel came from and what the familys connection was with a lady from Tyrellspass who had a draper shop around 1910. Devery, from St. Rynah's in Banagher. My mother is Margaret M Devery, (nee Heffernan). She is the last living survivor of the Heffernan Family from Garbally. "Peggy" is the youngest of 6 children to William & Hannah Heffernan. William, Hannah and his parents, (my great-grandparents) are buried in the church yard at Mt. Bolus. My mother's other siblings were Thomas, who died in 1990, MaryEllen, who died in New York in 1994, Peter, who died circa 1998, Paddy, who died this last September 2007, and Hannorah (Ciss), who just died on Jan. 30, 2008. Peggy will be 90 this May, and lives in Staten Island, New York. My brother, Fr. Thomas Devery, from New York, has done the funerals of all the above aunts and uncles at Mt. Bolus. I have many wonderful cousins, most of whom are in the Offaly region, and throughout Ireland, the United States and England. I am proud of the history of my mother and father's families and my Irish heritage. I pray for both the souls of my ancestors and the lives of my existing Irish family.
