Comments: Hi Yvonne - Brother just emailed me a great picture of you two - love it! He's excited about his trip in 2 weeks, and I think he's going to freeze. We live in Maine - mega storm headed our way - maybe I'll go see him!!!! I loaned my copy of THAT'S NOT MY NAME to my mother, she hasn't finished it yet, but she's looking forward to the storm so she can. She said she'll read by candlelight if she has to, and she probably will have to because the power company has already issued warnings about outages. I hear there's a picture floating around out there with Brother's tongue out - I think Karl and I should see that one, don't you Wes? (HINT, HINT, HINT - make us smile brother!) Barb:)

Comments: So there I was, at Weston's Sierra Vista Motel w/Undead Dog. The weather was great, if not a bit on the coolish side for Von's Royal Taste (remember, anything below 84 just isn't warm): sunny and 60s during the day, frappin' cold (as far as I'm concerned) at night. Places visited include various shopping facilities at Fort Huachuca, home of the Military Intelligence (none of those oxymoron jokes, either -- ::whap!::). We've been to Bisbee, Tombstone (twice), Tucson (twice), and seen a movie (Vertical Limit). We've done the Christmas thing, taken pictures, and generally just goofed off. Tomorrow Weston gets all dressed up in uniform (cuz I insisted) and goes through his Re-enlistment ceremony, heading for another three years in the old U.S. of A. Army. Pictures will be taken and a grand time will be had by all.

So there's my big story. What's up with everyone else? It's way too quiet here!!!

Comments: Brother Wes, how did I know I would find you on this site???????? Yvonne, I finished THAT'S NOT MY NAME, and when I talked to you and said, "gee, I love it but I'm not sure where you're going with it," I thought to myself (after I hung up) boy, that sounded kind of rude, she probably thinks I'm a.... well, ya know. Anyway, I finished it the day after, and I loved it. I hope there will be a part 2. Wes, call me and let me tell you my contractor horror story, it makes anything you've ever written pale by comparison.

And don't let him shrug this off-- dashing is a fine word. Handsome works, too.

Comments: Well now. Dashing is not a description I would ever use. But thanks, Von.

If y'all want dashing...and cute and drop dead gorgeous, then take a look at Von's pictures....the holiday greeting...ahem...not-with-standing.

As a new fan of her writing, I just finished reading Final Impact and was very impressed. Her characterization is awesome. Never flat, each and everyone, to include my favorite, Lily, grew and progressed as per their own talents and the experiances thrust upon them. It's been a very long while since I have read such detailed characterization. Now, I am on to Von's first book. I'm excited to read it.

And Les, I agree. Maybe you should lead the revolution so we can get Von that collection contract. In my opinion, there isn't enough of her stuff out there and people should experiance her short fiction.

Nice. Very nice.

Comments: Gee, Les, what would you do with all that cash anyway? ::cough:: Still, the Palace does have three short stories for sale on the Offerings Page: Of My Own Making (a ghost novella), Cold Beneath the Vinegar Tree (from Imagination Fully Dilated), and Each Day is a Century from the audiobook collection Hear the Fear. I'm saving everything else for that elusive big buck collection. ::smile::

Everyone be sure to stop by Darke Palace to check out my Holiday Greeting and see pictures of my Tus-Con and Sierra Vista trip (including the dashing Weston) and others.

Comments: OK everyone, we need to STORM THE DARKE PALACE.... just like the old Frankenstein days.... we have to get Yvonne to open up the gates and allow us to peek into her short story boxes... Although I love to support my local book store, I'm frankly not likely to buy a book for just ONE Yvonne story... so, let's URGE her to either release them piecemeal over the net (for a price of course) or put together a book of shorts. Batteries not included... Yvonne, please feel free to thank me heartily in your book of short stories. Please send my cut of the royalties to the below addy..

thanxs

Les

Comments: Hey, this is what happens when people fuss about me not being here. I over-indulge.

On that last one, the Alan Clark book, my story in there is about 8,000 words and called "Cold Beneath the Vinegar Tree." Okay, I'm through. Really.

Comments: Yes, I've been trolling around eBay again. Couple of auctions of stuff to promote (not my auctions, but someone has to make a living off my work, ha ha). So here they are:

This one is for both AfterAge and deadrush, the seller claims in near mint and unread conditon. Right now the bidding is at $7.00.

This one is issue #1 of Gauntlet, which contains a story called "The Cutting Room" only sold to that one market way back in 1990. I never submitted the story elsewhere.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=493985829

This one is the huge Cemetery Dance "October Dreams" book, in which I have a rather short memory-based essay. But hey, even I don't have a copy of this, and the opening bid on the Dutch auction is five bucks lower than the cover price for the book:

Finally, this is the Alan Clark "Imagination Fully Dilated" anthology, where each story is accompanied by a full color Alan Clark print. The book is signed by all contributors and sold out some time ago. Opening bid is, I believe, lower than the original price, and you just can't get these 'no more'.

Oh, and pardon my Evil Fingers Typo in Weston's name in that previous post. ::sigh::

Comments: Rainy -- thank you, and a Belated Happy Halloween to you and everyone. Thanks to Brady, too, for such a great compliment about DeadTimes -- it's much appreciated!

I spent last week in Sierra Vista and Tucson, Arizona, and had a marvelous time. In Sierra Vista, Weston Ochse graciously offered his house as a free place to stay, fed and entertained me, and carted me around the mountains, mall, shops, desert, Mexico (yes, Mexico), Bisbee, and also back and forth to Tucson no less than three times. From Friday to Sunday afternoon was Tus-Con 27 where I got to see one of my best friends, Liz Danforth, for the first time in 18 months. Everyone who knows me even a little also knows that Arizona is near and dear to my heart; it has a special sort of healing effect on my mind and soul, sending me solidly on the road to recovery in every arena from stress factor to heartbreak. This trip was perhaps moreso thanks to Weston, just because he is... well, Westion.

I hope to have a couple of new pages up at the site in a few weeks, one for World Fantasy in Corpus Christi and one for Tus-Con, so check the site now and then to see what's what.
