Comments: I was sitting here and decided I wanted to read about why Siam became Thailand. So I googled "Siam History" and came across www.guidetothailand.com. There I found your many chapters of Southeast Asian history. I clicked through and ended up here. Now I have a lot more to read. I plan on reading your writings on Japan, Korea and China as well. Thanks for hosting these papers.

Comments: You discuss the NAVAL AFRICAN EXPEDITION to LAKE TANGANYIKA which my Grandfather was on. He was the Chief Engineer and some of photographs I see on the net are from his collection given to the imperial war museum. In the 1960's a very poorly researched book was published from which you seem to have gleaned some of the more bizarre aspects of the expedition. By the way the skirt under question is much more sensible than the heavy woollen kilt of his regiment and lighter than army issue shorts.
My Grandfather received the DSO and bar for his bravery and for rescuing one of the boats from a sand bank and putting out the engine room fire saving many lives. The effort to move these boats from Cape Town to the Lake took 2 years and tremendous effort. He was a very noble person who greatly admired the leadership of Spicer Simpson. Please do not belittle their expedition by continuing to perpetutate the attitude of the Phantom Flotilla writer.
Our current world was built by eccentrics and free thinkers, thank heavens for them

Comments: Dr. Kimball, I am searching for documentation for the habitation of dark-skinned races all along the ancient coasts of the Indian Ocean. I had found SW Arabia (Sabeans), the Elamites, the Dravidians, and (in my opinion) the Sumerians. I was exicted, therefore, when I read the history you provided for GuidetoThailand.com about the archaeological findings of a dark race there. Can you cite some sources for your information? Thank you! Timothy LeCraw

Comments: Dear Charles Kimball,
I have really enjoyed reading your “Soviet Russia” – work on the history of me fatherland country. You have collected a lot of interesting facts about soviet history. But some little and big historical mistakes are made in your article.
If you would like to continue your researching of soviet history which I am researching too, I would like to suggest you a kind of cooperation.
I can help you working with Russian language sources, and you can recommend me English researches on this topic (I think you know them better then I do).
If you are interested in such cooperation pleas write to me mend@rambler.ru.
Sincerely yours,
Nikita Mendkovich
