I've been surfing Topanga since the late 60's and have been beach scavenging tumbled bricks and such forever (I'm sure I have some of Bill C's brick patio in my collection). After the recent series of bigger than average surf turned over the beach, I picked up a perfectly preserved Buddha head next to one on the remaining wooden frames on the beach. It made me wonder how long it had been buried. I was about thirteen and I believe that Mike was nineteen. Mike and I worked together folding the Sunday L.A. Times newspaper finishing around 6 AM, then going surfing. I'm a very good friend of Steve Taussig whom I've known since we were around sixteen and Tom McBride has been a friend for about the same time. I met Sara my wife of forty years on Topanga beach; we've lived in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for twenty three years. We were married at Sid and Marge Bernsteins house in the Palisades by Norman Ollestad. Bruce Bernstein and I were best friends at Paul Revere Junior High. Bill Cleary and Tom Morey spent an afternoon with us at our home in Cabo. Prior to moving to Cabo, we lived Santa Barbara and I saw Bill often on the beach as well as Jimmy and Francis and Steve.
