Comments: I was a Hospital Corpsman stationed at Sta.Hosp., Sasebo from May 61-Aug 63. Made HM3 And HM2 in Sasebo. Sasebo was the best duty station I ever had. I cried like a baby when I had to leave there. I became acquainted with many sailors on the MSC's and other homeported ships in Sasebo. Should have married my Japanese girlfriend. Some of our Phoebe family has left us during the short time this group got back together. We all share a great pride, and a fellowship as those sailors that seved on this grand lady. When I first saw Ken Couch, and later Jim Brittan I was moved nearly to tears. I had lost track of all my shipmates after the untimely death of Terry Dreschler. I love each and every one of my old shipmates(even McCloud)- and hope that I have the opportunity to see them all before the memory of this old wooden girl and myself dissapear into things more important. These sailors are more than shipmates, they are my Family. And if I remember correctly, Tim Hadley was a Fireman who helped keep those beautiful engines purring at that time. He loved the Navy, retired around 1972-4 and passed in 1997. I have a photo he kept of the USS Phoebe on the seas and would be very happy to email a copy in his honor for your website.
