Comments: Hey everyone... anyone... hello? Is this thing on? With 17 months between books, I guess I can't expect too much lingering, but I'm happy to report that my new book is about to break from Signet. It's called BAIT AND SWITCH, and while it's very much a psychological thriller with another twisted take on love, it's quite different than my earlier stuff. For one thing, it's first person, and my narrator is a cynical wiseass (he's writing a book called "Bullshit In America"; there are many quotes used as chapter headers). Think Elmore Leonard with adjectives and a hipper take. Very Harlan Cobin in style. I hope you will all give it a shot, and please do let me know what you think. I'll check back in here soon, see if anybody's home. Until then, take care, and happy reading. And by the way, hope you saw my blurb for Mooney's REMEMBERING SARAH on the back cover.

Comments: Hey, Larry! Somehow I didn't put two and two together and missed the chat. Would have been fun to meet you. I really liked "Darkness" and wish you well with the film version--could be very explosive if handled correctly. If you'll be at Horrorfind or Bouchercon this year, I'd love to buy you a drink.
All the best, Harry

Comments: It was a great "chat" with Larry Brooks tonight. Sorry more people couldn't have been there to enjoy it. You missed a wonderful time with Larry and his wife, Laura. No, she isn't the Dark Lady, but yes, she has definitely influenced the dark female characters in his novels.

Comments: Larry,
That was a good interview you had on Book Crazy. I wish it had been at least an hour longer. I missed the first twenty minutes because when Debbie told me it was going to be on at 8:00PM, she didn't say if it was Eastern or Pacific Standard, so I wasted time by tuning in at 5,6, and then seven o'clock. When eight rolled around, I was dicking around on Horror World and forgot about it, till I glanced at the clock on my computer. You brought up some interesting ideas about the process of writing and using an outline as a kind of roadmap to get you from Point A to Point S, with the freedom to stop and have some fun along the way. Also, what you said to me a few weeks ago about Serpent's Dance is more understandable now that I know it originally started out as a "Tech-no" thriller and that your publisher made you go back and add the erotic elements so that it would appeal to fans of Darkness Bound. Well, I want to kiss your publisher for that!!! Maybe on the April 4th Chat we can discuss your next novel, Schmidt Happens, in a little more detail. And, you're right, you will have to change the title. That's a given, or people probably won't buy it. I look forward to asking your wife about the Black Rose :-))

Comments: Larry,
I made the comment about Derailed being similar to your style of writing, but that was preferring to the first sixty or so pages, up through the "infamous" rape scene in the hotel. I wrote a book review on it which will be in Horror World's March update, along with a review of Serpent's Dance. I said some pretty nasty things, but it wasn't a totally bad book, and it did read fast. I liked it just enough to be interested in reading Siegel's Epitah, which might have more substance to it. Everybody, I just got the news this morning. The Book Crazy Radio Network at www.BookCrazy.net is based in Phoenix, Arizona and Larry was interviewed by them last weekend. The interview will be broadcast this Friday, March 21st, starting at Midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on Friday morning, then every four hours--Midnight, 4:00am, 8:00am, Noon, 4:00pm, and 8:00pm on Friday evening. The interview should run about 55 minutes or so. This is the radio network that just interviewed Joe Lansdale and Scott Nicholson. The interview with Scott hasn't been scheduled, yet. When I know more, I'll pass on the information. Larry, I can't wait to hear what Laura has to say about your kinky sexual habits. I bet it was her idea to put the rope around Damien's neck!!!

Comments: Hey all - sorry I've been scarce, as Wayne said, I'm in Arizona looking for the sun. Been raining, though, which means I'm getting some writing done. FYI, I finished the first draft of my new novel just this morning. It's called SCHMITT HAPPENS (nothing like the movie with the similar name; I had the name first, so I'm trying to hang onto it), and shit definately happens in it. Five bucks says they'll make me change the title. Looking forward to the chat on the 4th... Laura is already shopping for just the right outfit. L.

PS - somebody mentioned "Derailed", and compared it to my style. That's a compliment (thank you); except... was it just me, or was that the biggest deus ex machina twist in the history of commercial fiction, or what? If one of us tried that in a freshman creative writing class, the instructor would throw us out of the building. My opinion. The book sure went away fast, though. Half a million in promotion, and it's already gone.
