Comments: I have watched success of your campaign. I see other building projects in various stages. Nothing appears to be done about them. Is there a "Vision" for Lake Placid? If so What and Where can we get a copy? How can we residents/voters see and be heard on these projects? I was told the "village fathers" are involved. They have money involved. They do not have our interests at heart. 12 Thu February 08 2007 - 16:59:38 Fullname: The Rev. Michael S. Michael Jones. I am Rector of St. Eustace Episcopal Church, but I am speaking as a neighbor. I live the next street over. When Hilton put up this building, [The present hotel] they asked to make it far higher than any other structure in town. I am told that Ruth Hart successfully argued that no building should be higher than our tallest tree. The reason that is such a strong argument is that Lake Placid's chief asset is God's beauty. That beauty is both an aesthetic pleasure, but it is also our chief financial asset. Mar that beauty and you don't just offend the eye. You damage the source of our income. My wife and I moved up from Palm Beach County. We both remember when structures and nature lived in a sort of harmony. Now you can no longer see the ocean from Palm Beach, except for a few hundred yards of public land. Tall buildings virtually hide the ocean from everyone except the privileged. This Hilton's interior is lovely. Outside, it is ugly as a stump, and, frankly, I'm tired of ugly buildings obscuring what God put there for all of us. So, I ask: why not build something beautiful that complies with the town code that serves all of us? 13 Tue February 06 2007 - 17:57:26 Fullname: Ed Schrader Email: Where are your from?: Lake Placid Homepage name: Homepage URL: Reference: Advertisment-Banner How good do you think this site is: No comments Comments: A meeting at 10AM on a weekday/work day is certainly convenient for the Hilton, but not considerate of the working class citizens and concerned residents of the community. How about a weekend date or evening meeting, as well? 14 Fri January 19 2007 - 21:46:19 Fullname: Pam Geil Email: bloomingtown@sbcglobal.net Where are your from?: Small Town in Southern California Homepage name: bloomington cityhood Homepage URL: bloomingtoncityhood.org Reference: Just Surfed On It! We in Bloomington California are backed up against a wall. We are working to save our little town and are in the middle of a Incorporation effort. The powers against us are many with a large segment on boards and commissions we must go in front of. We are a non profit group that need to raise 109 thousand dollars by Feb 28th or our work will be for not, the county will set in redevelopment and our town soon will be a thing of the past. I was in hopes that in your battles you may of found some links to donors who believe in small towns and open spaces. If anyone there knows of such a person please give me a call 909 446 2679 thank you so much for your time and keep up the great work.... 15 Mon December 18 2006 - 17:22:39 Fullname: R Smith Email: rsmith@futroninc.com Where are your from?: Lake Placid Homepage name: Homepage URL: Reference: From Free Guestbooks Site How good do you think this site is: No comments Comments: I'm very pleased with the efforts on the Hilton project. It has taken some thing like this to awaken the people of LP. There several other projects in and the village and town which also desevere attention. The Hurley Bros. 30,000 propane storage tank on Station St. The River Bend project off Station and Old Military Rd. The Zoning and Pannning boards both need to have closer supervision buy the Town and Village officals. The attorney fees from their actions need to be looked into. 16 Mon December 11 2006 - 14:55:20 Fullname: Elizabeth and Alton Email: Where are your from?: Homepage name: Homepage URL: Reference: Word of Mouth How good do you think this site is: Well Done!!! Comments: Congratulations on your amazingly successful grass-roots campaign to halt the Hilton over-development on Mirror Lake! I logged onto your website this morning to get the talking points for our letter to the Zoning Board, and was delighted to see that you've already slowed the project to a standstill. That is great news. Alton and I wrote a letter (and sent the petition) anyway, since there may be additional rounds of negotiation, and it doesn't hurt to have extra letters. We certainly hope the project is not resurrected. Bravo again on your community organizing! Warm wishes, Elizabeth and Alton 17 Fri December 08 2006 - 17:32:28 Fullname: Ed Schrader Email: Where are your from?: Homepage name: Homepage URL: Reference: Advertisment-Banner How good do you think this site is: Well Done!!! Maybe the next battle will be the Convention Center. The proposed 46 unit condo / hotel project has been shelved because of unprecedented public outcry. This represents a remarkable victory for our community! We will update you as this story unfolds. 19 Thu December 07 2006 - 21:44:28 Fullname: Ruth Chasolen Email: ruthcc@adelphia.net Where are your from?: Saranac Lake Homepage name: savelakeplacid.com Homepage URL: www Reference: Word of Mouth How good do you think this site is: Well Done!!! Comments: The Alpine Village of Lake Placid is the gemstone of the Adirondacks, with Mirror Lake as its centerpiece. Understandably, it is a magnet for those hoping to steal a piece of the serenity offered in its exquisite vistas and smalltown charm. The people of the community have labored through the years to preserve and maintain this essence. The overscaled, overpopulated mentality has been intentionally excluded from life here. The advent of a garish project such as Hilton Condo does not belong in the faces and yards of those who have excercised vision and judgement throughout the decades. While enterprise and progress may define growth, exploitation remains close at hand. 20 Thu December 07 2006 - 21:37:43 Fullname: Peter Fish Email: fish9471@gmail.com Where are your from?: North Elba Homepage name: Homepage URL: Reference: Word of Mouth How good do you think this site is: No comments Comments: It is clear that the established zoning is in place to help preserve the unique character of the town. The opportunities for variances are in place to provide for very special circumstances. From what I can see, the developer has the arrogance to assume that maximizing profit is a legitimate circumstance for the zoning board to compromise most of its standards. We can all safely assume that any project on that site will make money. To me, the developer, rather than functioning within the scope of established public code, needs more cash. Simply, our local government should say no. There are plenty of means for the Lane Hospitality to make money on the site, and that is there right. It just needs to be done within the zoning expectations of our community. 1 2 3
