Comments: John, I'm looking forward to the proposed edition of G. G. Pendarves stories. Is there an approximate publication date yet? Also, can you reveil the selection of tales -- only stories from Weird Tales or perhaps from other magazines? I'm quite interested in any collection of Weird Tales writers you may decide to publish.

Comments: Will the introduction or afterword to ADEPTS & ARKHAM discuss the history of "Adept's Gambit", its composition, revision, and rediscovery? I think this would be fascinating, since most writers on Leiber have recorded that this original version had been lost or destroyed decades ago.

Comments: Yo John ... I think you can be forgiven a blatantly commercial announcement on your own message-board. In the meantime, just seen the cover for WALK ON THE DARKSIDE. Looks amazing. Am I right in thinking it's coming out in early September?

I certainly hope the formatting is preserved on this message or it's going to look like hell...

THE COLOUR OUT OF DARKNESS by John Pelan (Novella #17)

In his classic story "The Call of Cthulhu" H.P. Lovecraft wrote: "The cult would never die till the stars came right again, and the secret priests would take great Cthulhu from His tomb to revive His subjects and resume His rule of earth. The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom."

Lovecraft was right, though he only glimpsed a tiny sliver of the true horror that governs the secret history of the world. The truth is much, much worse as several young people are about to discover. The miracle drug "Essence" opens doors of perception hithereo undreamed of, but there's a heavy price to paid. The price is to belong body and soul to nameless horrors that were old when the earth was young. Nobody rides for free, and damn few get out alive…

Comments: Ah, if only my wife would buy me my very own message board! I was just sitting about this morning (as I often do, long into the afternoon), and shuffling about some papers for my new monograph, "Algernon Blackwood: Opium Trader & Chinese Pimp" when the thought entered my usually empty head. I'd been trying to download a pirate version of Front Page from my favorite Bulgarian warez site so I can work up a new layout for my absolutely brilliant web page, "The Haunted Transvestite," and I asked my wife, but she just muttered something in Turkish and told me to "Go get fluffed." I'm not quite certain what she meant by that. She knows I'm allergic to cleaning and folding linens.

Oh, well, the hell with you John Pelan! I will be the greatest ghost tale editor/author of all time yet! Just wait until I have that copy of THE NAMELESS uploaded to the H.T. with my critical commentary!

Comments: Martin:

When we publish "Adepts & Arkham" (which will include some oother mythos tales, we will be using the original (and previously unpublished) version of "Adept's Gambit". It's quite a read and shows that teh Fafhrd and Mouser tales could have gone in another direction entire... It's also about 10,000 words longer than the version we're all familiar with.

Cheers,

John

Comments: Just saw the nice new website. It looks good! I am terribly tempted by the forthcoming Simak collection -- I have very fond memories of some of his novels from when I was a kid.

There is mention of forthcoming titles by Leiber -- might that include the Mythos version of "Adept's Gambit"? :)
