I'm sure that it won't surprise you that I have several hours of tapes of the Great Sasuke in his pre-politco days. One that's actually on-topic for Horrorworld would be the match where he breaks his skull landing wrong, finishes the match and then does a rather incoherent interview before allowing himself to be put in an ambulance...

He's actually the fourth pro wrestler in Japan to enter politics... The last one was Atsushi Onita, notable for wrapping himself in barbwire and spitting fire at people. (The latter being a debate tactic that I love to see utilized in Congress...)

Cheers,

John

Comments: Hi All:

Stephen: Glad you enjoyed the column, the 100 list has actually managed to hold pretty steady for a while. I'm pretty jazzed about the Tartarus Walpole volume, though folks that don't have any Walpole at all will have even more reason to be excited than those of us that have already spent a good chunk of change on THE SILVER THORN and ALL SOULS' NIGHT. ;-(

For me, the highpoint of the new CD was Tom Monteleone talking about being hired to do the Ric Flair bio. I had no idea that the project was being shopped around, a pity...

A new RESIDENTS CD? I am so there... As I'm loading up for a six-hour writing jag ( a column, three entries for the Greenwood Encyclopedia of Supernatural Authors, and two stories that neeed to get finished) I've loaded up the CD player... I'm curious, what's everyone else listening to? Here's mine:

The Flying Lizards - The Flying Lizards
Iannis Xenakis - Metatasis/Eonta/Pithoprakta
Guitar Wolf - Planet of the Wolves
The Oblivians - Popular Favorites
The Ubangis - Drop Another Coin

Next six will probably be all Cramps, Chickasaw Mudd Puppies and Bob Log III, by that point I should have most of this stuff done.

Cheers,

John

I read your column in the latest issue of Cemetery Dance and enjoyed it as usual. I've taken a number of your recommendations and they've been solid gold. Keep up the good work!

Comments: Re Wagner list:

It's a shame I never had more of a chance to discuss the list with Karl... I certainly agree with his Ryan selections, but his Mark Hansom selection puzzles me... I'd say that there are at least four Hansom novels that are better than SHADOW ON THE HOUSE. Not that SHADOW is a bad book, it's a very impressive first novel, but its a psychological horror novel that has had its theme done better by other writers. Hansom really started hitting his stride when he wnet full-tilt into supernatural horror. The only thing I can figure is that the books are so scarce that SHADOW was the only one that Karl had.

It's a very interesting list, ranging from books that you can find for a couple of bucks to books that might never see at any price despite a lifetime of looking.

Cheers,

John
