There were some good tales, but man, some were really out there! Will be starting 'Cloud Atlas' next. I have a break from classes until the 27th of this month, so if you have another must read let me know, take care, Dirk 677 Tue September 07 2010 - 02:36:16 Fullname: Amanda Soto Email: AmandaRSoto@yahoo.com Comments: Where can I find more information about the children who helped Ruth torture Meg in "The Girl Next Door?" The book and the movie were horrendous, but your style of writing was amazing. 678 Tue September 07 2010 - 01:33:02 Fullname: Steve Y Email: Comments: Dallas, it appears The Woman in book form will be delayed(Oct1 I think). Can't wait to read it. Anyway, Harlan Ellison will be at a bookstore near me this month. Any thoughts on him and his work? Seems to be a vocal, opinionated guy....Gail, Off Season was not made into a movie(yet). Rights are owned but that's it so far. Later. 679 Mon September 06 2010 - 17:11:05 Fullname: gail gowland Email: gailgowland@sympatico.ca Comments: Hi Jack, how did you enjoy the horrorfind convention ? some very good authors there, saw a pic of monica o'rourke , have just purchased her book " experiments in human nature " very hard to find here stuff even on amazon ! Keep them coming! 683 Wed September 01 2010 - 15:34:44 Fullname: Ketchum Email: Comments: A quick squeeze-in between returning from THE WOMAN's shoot and HorrorFind...j.allen -- SHE WAKES and LADIES' NIGHT aside, my novels tend to be highly reality-based. So probably no Lovecraft. Good to hear you're enjoying the books, though. SHAUN -- you nailed it. WEED is definitely inspired by the Homolka/Bernardo case. I'll probably be at Rue Morgue next year -- they tend to not invite people two years in a row and I did it last year. Glad you met Art Hindle! He's a great guy. TONY -- hope you're enjoying the books. KARI -- glad you liked COVER. There's a screenplay being developed, by the way. We'll see. KONNIE -- see you at HorrorFind, where I will indeed have copies of JOYRIDE/WEED SPECIES. Find me ASAP, though. You never know what will sell out and what won't. S&B -- come back where!!! BIG DROZ -- my agent is Alice Martell, the Martell Agency, 1350 Avenue of the Americas, NY NY 10019. 212-317-2672. LUCAS -- since you liked THE LOST, try either JOYRIDE or THE GIRL NEXT DOOR next. I think they'll work for you. DEREK -- glad you found me...keep readin'! I originally discovered your presence in the horror genre through an advertisement in the back of Richard Laymon's Friday Night in Beast House. I wanted to start off by reading Off Season, but as the fate of the library would have it, I ended up snagging a copy of Old Flames, with the bonus story Right to Life included. It was an awesome, engrossing read all the way through both stories, and I couldn't put it down until I found out what happened to the two protagonists, Jim and Sara. I can't wait to get my hands on Red and Off Season. You are a prime example of how horror can house excellent, deep characters that stay with you long after the final page has been read. 686 Tue August 31 2010 - 03:31:28 Fullname: Lucas Mangum Email: L.Mangum.Fiction@gmail.com Comments: Howdy Jack! I read The Lost a few months back and really dug it. And I mean, I REALLY dug it! That being said, as the author, what would you recommend I read next? 687 Tue August 31 2010 - 00:53:35 Fullname: Big Droz Email: joeknowsfish@yahoo.com Comments: Can anyone tell me the name of Ketchum's literary agent? 688 Sun August 29 2010 - 15:58:12 Fullname: S&B Email: Comments: D. come back, we're missin' you!!!!!! :) 689 Sun August 29 2010 - 04:41:47 Fullname: Shaun Email: klindsay@quickclic.net Comments: Hey, Jack!! Just got back from The Horror convention here in T.O. Was depressed not to meet Lance Henricksen due to the $40 fee, but ecstatic to Get Ken Russell's auto. Walking down some random aisle and who's sitting there eating pizza.......ART frickin' HINDLE!!!! I was so pumped, I ran and bought a second copy of OFFSPRING just to get him to sign the front. He was gracious and willing to talk twice for well over ten minutes. Glad to hear you're buds!! Wish you were there, Shaun. 690 Sat August 28 2010 - 03:14:24 Fullname: Konnie Jones Email: Comments: See you at Horrorfind! I hope that you will have Joyride/Weed Species there! I finished Off Season about a week ago, and immediately went out and bought Offspring. I just received The Girl Next Door today. Can't wait to dig into them. 693 Tue August 24 2010 - 06:10:55 Fullname: Shaun Email: klindsay@quickclic.net Comments: Hey Jack, just finished Joyride and Weed Species. Being a Canadian, I am preeeettttyyyyy sure you took some direct influence from the Komolka / Bernardo nightmare from up here near my town. If not, you'd be quite interested by the whole scenario. Wish you were doing the Rue Morgue Festival this year, I've got some more stuff to get signed. Take care, "please tell my wife to fuck off when we get there", Shaun. 694 Fri August 20 2010 - 08:20:37 Fullname: j.allen Email: jwallen1018@yahoo.com Comments: Bad guys get what they deserve and I so thank you for the hours of entertainment and sometimes enlightenment. I've read everything, I think, with the exception of She Wakes, which good ole' B&N should have in in about a week. Red was my favorite and Girl next door was my first. So with being a horror legend and all...do you ever plan on contributing to the Cthulhu Mythos? 695 Wed August 18 2010 - 19:53:22 Fullname: Ketchum Email: Comments: Got to make this short, folks, because I'm headed back to THE WOMAN's shoot in Massachusetts tomorrow. I'll be there till the end of the month...BILL -- glad you liked OFFSPRING despite Chiller's meddling. What can I say -- TV, right! They do seem to be putting up a good bit of the money for Lucky to shoot my script for THE PASSENGER, though, so I ai'nt gonna be too hard on 'em. NAN -- "Suzie? Suzie Creamcheese? This is the voice of your concience speaking..." ALY -- No joy for me in meeting the characters in WEEDS SPECIES in my head, but plenty of satisfaction in essaying them for you to read. McKENZIE -- glad to hear I snagged you with OFF SEASON and OFFSPRING. LOUIE -- Leisure won't just be issuing ebooks, They're switching over from mass market paperback format to trade paperback format, which will take 6-8 months, they tell me, because they're dealing not only with format but with a new distributor. I'm assured the books will be available through B&E and all the usual bookstores and should be as affordable as any other trade paperback. We'll see...have a good end-of-summer, folks, and talk to you soon. How will we find your books at affordable prices and with wide distribution? 697 Thu August 12 2010 - 05:50:46 Fullname: McKenzie Email: dazzlekitty@hotmail.com Comments: I've read two of your books - Offspring and Off Season. I actually ended up reading Offspring first, which I didn't know was a sequel to Off Season. I will have to say that I really enjoyed Off Season the most of the two. It was one of those few books I have read that really actualy disturbed me (and not much horror does that....I guess I'm not easily affected by gruesome scenes in literature). And this is a good thing, mind you! I like a book that affects me like this. I've been reading all of Richard Laymon's novels and am trying to acquire more. However, I think I am going to have to put Laymon on hold for a little bit and read more of yours. I'm definitely impressed with your writing and I am so excited to find another author I really enjoy. I am planning on taking a trip to Borders this payday to purchase a couple more of your novels. I just wanted to stop by and say you really impressed me! :) 698 Mon August 02 2010 - 16:57:59 Fullname: Aly Email: Comments: Ah, just wandered in and noted that you asked me a question. "Weed Species" . . . it's hard to have warm feelings for a story where the central character is so repulsive. If I'm not mistaken, this is once again based on a real case I seem to recall reading about in the news many years ago. Sociopath is right! I don't believe you write about these disturbing people because it gives you any joy, but because it simultaneously horrifies you and breaks your heart that they exist, spreading their poison around indiscriminately like some noxious pollen. It's tragic that they are so damaged, but they are so dangerous even the law can't control what they are. 699 Sun August 01 2010 - 23:13:36 Fullname: Nanette Deaux Email: nononan@gmail.com Comments: Hi Jack- Have always loved "The Girl Next Door". Watched "Offspring" last night after seeing that you were connected. LOVED the Frank Zappa reference: "Suzy Creamcheese"!!! The husband and I both laughed out loud over that. Enjoy your stuff, man!
