Comments: A SERBIAN FILM has not yet seen a commercial DVD release here...and it may be awhile. It only played select festivals and events last year, if I'm not mistaken...and it's reception was one of less than joyous acceptance.

Comments: I saw SALO years and years ago, it was harsh and disgusting. I liked it. I have not worked up the nerve to view SERBIAN yet...Von Trier's ANTICHRIST was almost too much for me...Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! Well, I'd better get back to the writing board, Have a great weekend, All!

Comments: First post of 2011...MEGAN -- glad you found the piece in ON WRITING HORROR useful to you. Good book in my opinion...SANDRA -- Google up Sylvia Likens (GAIL's got the last name slightly wrong) and you'll find a lot on the true crime...SHANE -- I'm pretty sure you got the twist in MEGAN'S LAW, all right. I saw SALO many years ago, when it first came out and SERBIAN only recently. Both extremely twisted...Best to all, D.

Comments: My cousin but me the bulk of your books that I hadn't read yet for Christmas. I need to know. Did you intend the ending of "Megan's Law" in the extremely twisted way I am interpreting it? This story in particular left me stunned.

Also I am excited to see Offspring, although I have to say.. I feel like The Girl Next Door was completely lacking in the atmosphere and dark contrast between 50's simple life and the dark secrets that were held just next door. I feel like it was played way to straight - like there was no time put into really blossoming the subtext on screen.

The films Red and The Lost, however, were absolutely fantastic and are what brought me to your stories to begin with.

Anyway, I am excited to see what comes from the Ketchum camp this year, as it is always a treat.

And in your taste for sadistic twist I see you suggest people watch the Human Centipede - so if you haven't yet I would recommend to you the films Salo and A Serbian Film. They changed me.

Comments: Sandra, have you read the book or just seen the movie ? the book is always better but in this case I found it to be right on the money. The true story of this was about a girl called Sylvia Silkens, I think that was the last name, you can search it and there is also a book on it. I'm sure that someone here will fill you in better on the titles. One of Mr Ketchum's best work in my opinion

Comments: Hi, I just watched "The Girl Next Door" and didn't realize what the movie was about. I understand that the movie was 'loosely based' on a true life experience. Is it possible for you to enlighten me as to the true story it was based on and what happened to those involved.
I can't get this out of my head.
Thank you very much.
Sandra

Comments: Hi Jack. I've just stumbled upon you, believe it or not. I am halfway through the revised edition of On Writing Horror, and just finished your chapter about writing pain. I will definitely be checking out your works (once I get through my books from Christmas, that is!). From one (really new) writer to another, thank you for your chapter in On Writing Horror.

Comments: Hey Jack, thought I'd stop in and take a look around, its been awhile. I just wanted to say I recently read your novel Red and it more than exceeded my expectations. The story has a nice raw feeling to it, with characters that come alive to the reader. Now I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the movie adaptation, especially since Brian Cox plays Ludlow, opposite the always interesting Tom Sizemore. Happy holidays!

Comments: First, I would like to say howdy to all...I'm new here. :) Loved HUMAN CENTIPEDE...leaves you with that dirty sorta "Gummo" feeling. I have read HOUSE OF PAIn...it's okay...sort of an evil cult at large kinda book. Big fan of Mr. Ketchum's work, which began when I first read "The Box" and then everything else I could find...I think my favorite stays as "Red" such a cool book. Anyway, I ramble. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season! Live, Love and smile!!!

What do you think? Make a good movie? GAIL -- I don't know HOUSE OF PAIN, sorry. What do I want for Christmas? Well, excluding world peace as too tall an order, I never did get that pony...Happy Holidays, all! - D

Comments: I bought Joyride/Weed Species from you in Gettysburg, and read Weed Species on the plane back home. That was really an intense story, and very horrifying. Of course, I loved it! And Joyride is great, too, but I already read that one awhile back.

Yes, the Human Centipede is definitely a different type of movie. I just bought it on BluRay from Amazon for $8.99. A nice Christmas present for myself!

Happy Holidays to all!

Comments: Just saw a wonderful, powerful movie called AGORA, about the burning of the great Library of Alexandria by the Christians, who are portrayed as rabid, murderous, empowered bullies and woman-haters -- the utter enemies of science. Sound familiar? This should be required viewing every Christmas, just to sort of round out the picture...Best, D.

Comments: Hi folks -- GAIL -- I'm pretty certain you're going to enjoy THIS WICKED WORLD. Another recommendation to you and to all: Joseph Wambaugh's HOLLYWOOD MOON -- excellent police procedural, filled with great characters. Hope Santa's good to you...Lucky and I can use the royalties! GUY -- I thought you were buying!!! DIRK -- CENTIPEDE's outrageous indeed. Not surprised you won. But a word of warning -- this is NOT for the squeamish or easily offended. And thanks, I'll stay away from MULLIGAN STEW. All best, D.

Comments: D, during the month of October we had a friendly competition with our neighbors (also big horror fans and thanks to me Jack Ketchum fans too)as to who could bring the most twisted movie over on Friday and Saturday night, I won with 'Human Centipede'!
Thanks for the recommended read, the "wish list" on Amazon is getting full!
My class that I mentioned earlier doesnt start till January 3rd, but I decided to start on the listed books that you haven't heard of (below).
WOW, I don't know what kind of class this is going to be, but 'Mulligan Stew' so far is nothing more but mindless, sporatic, endless drivel! The up side is I only have about 500 more pages to go!
Have a great Holiday, Dirk

Comments: If, like me, you're already sick of holiday cheer, I recommend renting THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE. Seriously twisted stuff...that and for a great fun read, Joseph Wambough's HOLLYWOOD MOON. Both will make you forget Santa entirely.
