I was making a very good living as a writer of sex manuals and it was only because THE MANITOU was such a huge success that I wrote any more. I hope my interpretation is correct; in that case, I would be excited to know if you had planned this evolution since your first opus (MANITOU), or if it was the reflection of your personnal experience, documentation and historical research. The usual pattern is, though, that I get paid an advance to write a novel om commission, and a bit more when I deliver it, and more when it is published. When these advances have earned out I start receiving royalties. Contracts are for a limited period only so I can resell books from my backlist when the contracts have expired. Personally I think reading a book out loud is one of the hadrest things you can do...I've tried it myself and always end up croaky halfway through chapter one! Just popped onto Audible to find that 'Family Portrait' is finally available on audiobook. I have been reading you since 1978. Pariah is my second fave, but Family Portrait is the ultimate story for me. Hope the narrator does your wonderful tale justice. I look forward to listening to many more stories than the ones already available on Audible, especially all those early classics, Charnal House, Devils of D-Day, The Wells of Hell, The Heirloom.....and as I have said in a previos post 'Prey' Oh, to hear Brown Jenkin brought to life !!!
