Comments: Nope, no possums. I don't put the trap out at night since squirrels forage by day or I probably would have added them to the menageries. 11 squirrels gone now, and I haven't seen one in a week.

Comments: Don, no possum!?!? c'mon tell us about how you captured possums with your bare hands and relocated them in a very different manner unlike any provided by your humanitarian trap. also, it's nice to see a post by none other than Michael Bishop--i loved "Sacerdotal Owl." methinks Mr. Bishop should grace us with his presence more often.

Comments: I've been very lax about looking in here the last few days. Very busy with numerous projects, non-writing ones unfortunately.

Nice to hear from you again, Michael. Just finished reviewing your new collection from Golden Gryphon. Every once in a while I think about doing a new Mythologies, but then I remember how much time it consumed and the thought goes away.

Yes, Andrew, I enjoyed your novel, and reviewed it for Chronicle (formerly SF Chronicle). I'm not sure if the review has actually appeared yet. My reviews just go into the bank of material and get used depending on how much space needs to be filled.

I've had an interesting few days communing with wildlife. A family of squirrels got into both the main house and the library building. They overbalanced one of the shelving units somehow and that, combined with a frost heave, resulted in a domino effect, which left me with lots and lots of twisted metal and 40,000 books in one big pile. Have been slowly putting the library back together since then.

They also got into the house and started running through the walls. I hired a carpenter to replace the wood where they'd gotten in. It took less than 48 hours for them to gnaw a new entrance. But I must have annoyed them, because they started yammering at me whenever I came out into the yard. Then one of them urinated on me from an overhead branch and that was the final straw.

Went on Ebay and bought myself an animal trap (the kind that doesn't hurt them). Since then I've caught and relocated four squirrels (but there are at least 2 left). I've also caught two grackles, a woodchuch, and a skunk, and I had to chase away an inquisitive raccoon.

Fictionwise, I had stories in the last two Analogs and should have another in the July Asimovs. I wrote all three stories the same week, and boy I wish I could have that week again. I have a couple of anthology appearances coming up, and several novels waiting for editors to make decisions, including a non sequitur sequel to SERVANTS OF CHAOS titled tentatively CAVERNS OF CHAOS.

Hope everyone is well.

Comments: Just thought I'd say hello, Don. It's been a long time since we've had any real communication, and I still recall -- years and years and years later -- that your favorable comments about a few of my early short stories provided me with real incentive to keep going. And then, of course, there were those wonderful *Mythologies* issues . . . Hope you've nearly recovered from your move.

Comments: Dear Don,

Greetings from New Orleans! I hope you enjoyed "Fat White Vampire Blues." It's my first book to break into print. I enjoyed reading about your tremendous book collection. Mine isn't nearly as big (maybe a tenth as large as yours), but it's already causing me space problems. I'm getting married next month, and one of Dara's and my main goals is to find a home that can accomodate my books, my collection of vintage laptop computers, and her nine indoor housecats (oy!).

Best wishes to you.

Comments: Just spent four days putting up shelving and moving 3000 books to their new home. Sometimes I think it is possible to have too many books.

Comments: I just got an email from someone who bought some books from me on Ebay. He wanted to know if I knew that there was a horror writer with the same name as me. Fame is so fleeting.

Comments: Finished another short and sent it off. Working on a fantasy novel at the moment. Watched the first 15 minutes of a really hideously awful horror movie, CARNIVORE, before putting it on the "sell on Ebay" stack. Almost put Halloween Resurrection there as well. Better acted, but stupid plot.
