Comments: My children and I are just beginning to research our family history. A member of the French Huguenot Association in our area approached us about tracing my family history, and then joining their association.
It looks like I descend from Chretien DuBois' son, Jacques DuBois.
This website is so exciting that our children are wanting to pack up their families, and take a vacation to New Paltz. Our family appreciates all of the hard work that has been done by the DuBois Family Association. We can't wait to tell my sisters about this website.

Comments: I am very pleased to read your site.

I have only begun to research my family tree, but what I have found so far is very exciting.

My great-great grandfather, Gotfried DuBois, emigrated to Niagara County between 1865-1869 to join an earlier settlement of Prussian German Lutherans.

From our village historian, I learned that our settlement came from the village of Bergholz in the Uckermark region of Brandenberg Prussia. He told me that there were many French names (Villian, Milleville, DeVantier, DuBois, DesJardin, etc.) in that region because there was a large influx of French Huguenot emigrants in 1697. Those emigrants came originally from the region of France between Lille and Calais, with a temporary stayover (from about 1655 to 1697) in the Pfalz.

Through some research on google and with the church records office in Berlin, I was able to verify that Gotfried DuBois was born as Godefroi DuBois in the French Reformed church of Bergholz in 1832. I had always wondered why we were German Lutheran while our name was French. Now I know why!!

So the family name is right, the religion is right, the geography and timing of emigrations are right to suggest that it is quite possible that my DuBois family and your DuBois family are somehow connected, though that connection would be made prior to Louis DuBois emigration to New Paltz in 1660.

I was not able to get much more information on my direct ancestors. Godefroi's mother was Judith DuBois and grandfather was Jean DuBois, but the records office was not able to find church records or dates for them.

Since the names of Huguenot families are so narrow and well defined, I have other sites that show DuBois Huguenot families such as Thomas Dubois, son of Guillaume Dubois born 1670 Beindersheim, Pfalz who moved to Bergholz, Uckermark, which I am sure is an ancestor.

I just have to clear the gap from Jean, Judith and Godefroi back to Thomas, and from Thomas back into an ancestor of your Louis DuBois to prove it.

Would love to hear if you have any suggestions of who I can talk to or where I can research further to try to complete the link?
