His plane, Sweet Mama, was shot down on that mission. This may have been his first mission. I have gathered information about the mission and crew, but I am always looking for more info. Toured the Air Force museum. Lots of fun talking to the vets and the NexGen. The next generation like me who want to find out more about what our dads did..... Ratkiewicz. He was assigned to the 547 squardon, as a tail gunner. He was shot down on Oct 14th 1943 and was able to meet up with his crew members on the ground and they all were able to get into Switzerland. My dad got into Italy and made it back to American Lines. He died on May 25th 1968. While in England he married a Walsh girl her name was Esther Morgan from Wales.
